Zero on the Fahrenheit scale represents the temperature produced by the mixing of equal weights of snow and common salt.
° Fahrenheit | ° Celsius | |
---|---|---|
Boiling point of water | 212° | 100° |
Freezing point of water | 32° | 0° |
Absolute zero | –459.6° | –273.1° |
Absolute zero is theoretically the lowest possible temperature, the point at which all molecular motion would cease.
To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius (Centigrade), subtract 32 and multiply by .6.
To convert Celsius (Centigrade) to Fahrenheit, multiply by 1.8 and add 32.
Absolute zero, –273.15° on the Celsius (Centigrade) scale, is 0° Kelvin. Thus, Kelvin is equivalent to Celsius plus 273.15. The freezing point of water, 0°C and 32°F, is 273.15°K. The conversion formula is K° = C° + 273.15.
